Beginner

Functional Movement Training (FMT)

Pilates foundation techniques are introduced along with fundamental personal training concepts to improve core function and stabilization. These concepts are integrated into functional movement patterns that are used in daily activities.

Intermediate 

Performance Training (PT)

Intermediate Pilates techniques along with strength and conditioning concepts are introduced to improve posture, bone density, balance and performance. This class is an essential for improving quality of daily life, movement, sport or overall fitness level.

Advanced

This class focuses on challenging and improving the seven biomotor abilities of power/speed, strength, endurance, flexibility, agility, coordination and balance. This program will identify and train weakness in movement patterning.

During the warmer months, outdoor HPT classes will be scheduled where, weather permitting, the classes will be held outdoors on the beautiful grounds of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre.

 

 

Mixed Levels 

This class is open to clients of all levels and is designed with modifications to each exercise routine.  This allows every participant to work at their appropriate level.

Men's core & back conditioning

This male-only class is specifically designed to strengthen abdominal and back muscles which helps improve posture, reduce back pain and develop a flatter stomach.

Yoga / Pilates

Beginner

Level 1

This class introduces the basic elements of both Yoga and Pilates.  The Yoga principles of grounding, centering and breathing are incorporated into all classes.

Intermediate

Level 2

This class expands on the fundamentals introduced in the Level 1 class.  Participants will learn how to increase the focus of their movement which will enhance each routine.  Breathing and centering are emphasized as these become essential to reducing stress and enhancing wellness.

Mixed Level

This class is suitable for clients of all levels and capabilities.

Above classes use various pieces of unstable equipment.

Pre Natal

Pre Natal pregnancy conditioning 

This class is designed for women in all stages of pregnancy. It focuses on strengthening the muscles used during pregnancy and child birth, as well as reducing some of the more uncomfortable symptoms of pregnancy.  (Thanks Mandy, Carrie, and Katie for sharing your beautiful bellies with the world!) 

Post Natal

This class is designed to help recondition the core muscles that have been stretched during your pregnancy. It will also help strengthen the muscles that you will use to lift and carry your baby. It will also increase your stamina to keep up with your ever-growing bundle of joy.

Middle Eastern Core Flexibility & Strengthening (Raqs Sharqi) Body Innovations 093.jpg

 

 

Taught by Paula Gazziro, this high energy class is based on techinques that date back hundreds of years.  This class focuses on the muscular isolation of hips, chest, shoulders, head and hands.  In western cultures this program is usually referred to as belly dancing 

 

 

Teenagers

This class is a fun and interesting way to learn about core stability and other Pilates techniques. Teens will discover how to incorporate proper movement and breathing into their hectic lifestyle. Throughout the session, there will be themed classes of self defense and belly dancing.

Healing Bodies

Healing Bodies is a gentle class that moves at a slower rate.  It's an excellent choice for people dealing with physiological issues in their body.  The class will address posture, core strength, range of motion and stabilization of joints.

Nordic Walking

Based on the principals of cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking differs from normal walking because of the upper body technique involved in using walking poles.  Nordic Walking engages the abdominal & back muscles as well as the arms, shoulders and upper chest.  This class will use Gymstick® Walking Poles which incorporate Gymstick® exercise bands into the poles and allow for a total body exercise routine.
